2021년 한인여선교회 전국연합회 임원 수련회 아침 묵상

제목: “일상에서 만나는 기적”
성경 말씀: 사도행전 3:1-10절
오늘도 새로운 날을 주신 주님께 감사와 영광을 드립니다.
오늘 본문은, 매일 반복되었던 지극히 평범한 일상에서 일어났던 베드로, 요한과 날 때부터 한 번도 걸어보지 못했던 걸인과의 만남에서 일어난 매우 특별한 기적에 대한 이야기입니다.
저는 이 시간 본문이 우리에게 주는 교훈과 도전을 세 가지로 나누어 여러분들과 함께 묵상해 보고자 합니다.
첫째: 그들의 시선입니다. 두 제자의 눈이 예전과는 달리 늘 그 자리에 앉아 구걸했던 이 사람을 주목했다는 것입니다. 평생을 자신의 삶의 자리에서 한 번도 일어서지 못하고 구걸을 하면서 매일 매일의 생명을 연명할 수밖에 없는 이 사람을 주목했다는 것이 시사하는 것은 무엇일까요?
예수님은 이 땅에 오셔서 늘 소외된 사람을 돌아보시고 그들의 치유자요, 친구가 되어 주셨음을 우리는 너무도 잘 알고 있습니다. 그분은 높은 지위에 있었던 분들보다도 낮은 곳에 있었던 주변 사람들을 눈여겨 보셨고 그들의 고통과 아픔을 돌보셨습니다. 우리의 시선이 나를 향해 있을 때는 이웃의 사정과 고통이 잘 보이지가 않습니다. 그러나 베드로와 요한처럼 성령을 강하게 체험한 후에는 우리의 마음과 눈은 이웃을 향해 열리게 됩니다. 이것이 곧 예수님의 마음이요, 이 마음으로 우리는 세상을 보기 시작한다고 생각합니다.
무리를 보시고 불쌍히 여기셨던 그 예수님의 마음을 닮으면 우리의 시선이 바뀌게 되는 것입니다.
두 번째: 내 안에 있는 가장 소중한 나사렛 예수 그리스도의 능력에 대한 확신입니다.
이렇게 우리의 시선이 바뀌면 이웃을 위해 도움을 주어야겠다는 마음이 속에서부터 불타오르는 거룩한 부담이 생기게 됩니다. 그래서 베드로는 “은과 금은 내게 없으나 내게 있는 것을 그대에게 주니 나사렛 예수 그리스도의 이름으로 일어나 걸으시오” 하고 명합니다.
그 걸인이 요구하는 것, 곧 돈은 내가 없어도 그보다 더 귀한 것, 곧 예수 그리스도의 이름을 주겠다는 것입니다. 그들에게 있는 세상의 어떤 것보다도 귀하고 귀한 예수 그리스도를 주겠다는 것입니다. 이름은 곧 그의 존재를 나타낸다고 합니다. 예수님으로 부터 베드로란 새로운 이름을 받은 그에겐 더욱 그 의미가 무엇인지 잘 알고 있겠지요. 예수 그리스도의 이름을 선포한다는 것은 그분만이 죽음의 권세를 이기신 부활의 주님이요 능력의 주님이란 확신 속에서 고백되어진 그들의 신앙고백인 것입니다.
십자가상에서 확증된 하나님의 무한하신 사랑과 예수그리스도의 부활을 목격하고 예수님이 약속하신 대로 성령을 체험한 베드로와 요한은 이제 자신있게 내 힘이 아닌 그분의 이름으로 일어나라고 선포하며 손을 내밀며 그의 손을 잡고 일으켜 세웁니다.
말씀의 선포와 손을 내미는 제자들의 믿음의 행위가 만나면서 이 사람처럼 새로운 생명으로 거듭나는 기적의 사건이 일어납니다.
우리는 때를 얻든지 못 얻든지 우리에게 없는 것을 핑계삼아 주님의 뜻을 저버리지 말고 내게 있는 가장 귀한 것 곧 나를 구원하신 예수그리스도의 이름에 담겨진 그분의 능력을, 그 복음의 능력을 선포해야 합니다. 어려울 때일수록 그분만이 소망입니다.
세 번째: 이 사람이 걸을 수 있는 기적을 체험한 후에 가장 먼저 한 행위는 제자들과 함께 성전에 들어가서 기쁨으로 하나님을 찬양했다는 것입니다.
이것은 성전을 사이에 두고 성전 밖의 이 사람과 성전 안에 있는 사람과의 눈에 보이지 않던 장벽이 이제 더 이상 존재하지 않는다는 것을 보여 줍니다.
에베소서 2:14 절에 보면 예수님은 유대 사람과 이방 사람 사이를 가르는 담을 자기 몸으로 허무셔서 원수 된 것을 없애 였다고 했습니다. 그리고 18절에서는 양쪽 모두 그리스도를 통하여 한 성령안에서 아버지께 나아가게 되었다고 사도 바울은 말하고 있습니다. 이 사람은 이제 난생처음으로 믿음의 공동체의 한 가족이 된 것입니다. 치유에 따른 온전한 회복이 일어났다는 것입니다.
지금은 우리가 한 번도 경험해 보지 못한 어려운 시기이기에 우리는 불안하고 염려와 근심에 쌓여 있을 때도 종종 있을 것입니다. 그러나 우리를 여기까지 인도해 주시고 지켜주신 우리 주님 예수 그리스도에 대한 믿음에 대한 확신이 있을 때 우리는 그분의 이름을 선포할 수 있습니다.
우리는 “주의 이름을 부르는 자는 구원을 얻으리로다” 라는 말씀을 믿기 때문입니다.
삶의 고통 속에서 아무도 돌보지 않는 사람들을 눈여겨 볼 수 있는 마음의 눈을 우리는 가져야 합니다. 그래서 허물어진 인생에서 절망하는 그 사람들에게 예수 그리스도의 복음과 함께 우리의 손을 내밀어 그들의 떨리는 무릎을 일으켜 세워 그 자리를 털고 일어날 수 있도록 도와주어야 합니다. 그래서이들과 함께 더불어 살아갈 수 있는 믿음의 공동체, 사랑의 공동체를 만들어 가는 기적을 함께 꿈꾸는 우리 모두가 되기를 소원합니다.
(기도) 혼란과 어둠의 세상 속에서 우리를 당신의 딸로 불러 주심에 감사를 드립니다. 이제 당신의 마음과 뜻을 더 깊이 깨닫고 당신의 손과 발이 되기로 결단하는 저희에게 오늘의 말씀이 새로운 결단과 용기가 되게 하옵소서. 예수 그리스도의 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘

2021 NNKUMw National Officer Retreat’s Morning Devotional

Title: "The Miracles We See in Our Daily Lives”
Scripture: Acts 3:1-10

Thanks and glory be to our Lord for giving us another new day.
Today's text tells a story of a very special miracle that awoke Peter and John from their ordinary and repetitive routine, and raised a beggar who could not walk since birth.
I would like to meditate with you on three points about this text.

#1: Their gaze. The eyes of the two disciples happened to notice this person, unlike before, who had always been sitting there and begging. What does it suggest that they were able to notice this man who has never stood up from that place all his life with no choice but to live his daily life as a beggar?

We all know very well that Jesus came to this land, and has always looked after those underprivileged, as  their healer and friend. He looked at those around him lower than those who were sitting in high positions, and took care of their pain and suffering. When our eyes are toward ourselves, we can't see the situations and pains of our neighbors. However, after strongly experiencing the Holy Spirit like Peter and John, our hearts and eyes open up toward our neighbors. This is the heart of Jesus, and I think it is with this heart that we begin to see the world.

If we resemble this heart of Jesus—who looked at the crowd and felt compassionate toward them—our perspective will be transformed.

#2: Confidence in the power of our most precious Jesus Christ, who resides in us.

Once our perspectives are transformed, we will have a holy burden that fires up from the bottom of our hearts to help our neighbors. So Peter commands, "Silver and gold I do not have, but I give you what I have, so stand up and walk in the name of Nazareth Jesus Christ."

He is saying, ‘I don’t have what you are asking for—money—but, I will give you the name of Jesus Christ, which is far more precious than that. He is giving him Jesus Christ, who is more precious than anything else in the world. A person’s name indicates one’s existence. And having received a new name ‘Peter’ from Jesus, he knew the power of a name’s meaning. Declaring the name of Jesus Christ is a conviction saying that Jesus Christ is the Lord of Resurrection, the only one who has overcome the power of death. 

Peter and John, who had witnessed the infinite love of God and the resurrection of Jesus Christ on the cross and experienced the Holy Spirit as Jesus had promised, now proudly proclaim the beggar to rise up, not in their power but in Jesus’ name, and lift him up.

As their verbal proclamation and act of faith meet, a miraculous event of being born again with a new life occurs.

We must not betray the will of the Lord by taking advantage of what we do not have, whether we get the right time or not, but declare His power in the name of Jesus Christ, who has saved us, as well as the power of the gospel. The more difficult it gets, He alone is our hope.

#3: The first thing the beggar did after experiencing the miracle of walking was to enter the temple with the disciples and praise God with joy.

This shows that the invisible barrier between him outside the temple and the inside the temple no longer exists.

In Ephesians 2:14 Jesus says that He had no enemies because He broke with his body the wall between the Jews and the Gentiles. In verse 18, the apostle Paul says, both sides went to the Father in one Holy Spirit through Christ. This person is now a family member of the faith community for the first time in his life. It means that a complete restoration from healing has occurred.

This is a difficult time that we have never experienced before, so we will often get anxious, worried, and burdened. But we can proclaim his name when we have confidence in the faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, who has led us here and protected us.

Because we believe in the saying, "Those who call the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
We should have the eyes to pay attention to those in pain who are not taken care of. Therefore, we must reach our hands out with the gospel of Jesus Christ to help those struggling in despair in their broken lives to lift up their trembling knees and rise up. I hope that we can all dream of a miracle of creating a community of faith and love together with those people.

Prayer: Thank you for calling us as your daughters in this world of chaos and darkness. Let the words of today’s devotional be a new decision and courage for us, as we commit to deeply follow after and resemble your heart, hands and feet. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ.  Amen.

한인여선교회 전국연합회 임원 수련회에 참석하였습니다.
올해 새해를 맞아 1월 29일부터 30일까지 줌으로 열린 전국연합회 임원 수련회에 남가주연합회 부회장으로서 참석하였습니다.
이번 임원 수련회는 “포스트 코로나 시대를 맞아 우리 한인여선교회의 선교의 대상은 누구이며, 앞으로 어떤 사역을 어떻게 해나가야 하는가?”를 고민하며, 이루어졌습니다.
임원 수련회 교재는 박영숙 & 제롬 글랜이 지은 “세계 미래 보고서 2021: 포스트 코로나 특별판”이었습니다. 여는 예배를 시작으로 해서, 김혜선 목사님께서 지도하시는 성경 공부 “포스트 코로나 시대의 지도력”, 이성옥 여성국 부국장님의 “UMW Mission”, 김명래 총무님의 워크숍과 이어지는 그룹 토의와 발표, 마치는 예배까지 정말 빡빡하고 알찬 수련회였습니다.
처음엔 교재인 책을 우편으로 아무 생각 없이 받았습니다. 그런데 역시 한인여선교회 전국연합회는 달랐습니다. 범상치 않은 교재와 함께 김혜선 목사님의 지혜롭고 은혜로운 성경 공부를 참여하니, 정말 미래를 준비하는 여선교회 회원으로서 자부심과 사명감을 느낄 수 있었습니다.
이번 임원 수련회는 저에게 기독교인으로서, 여선교회 회원으로서 계속 발전해 나가는 과학 기술과 문명, 사회에 관해, 예수님의 제자로서 어떤 관점을 가지고 바라볼 것인지, 기독교인으로서 어떻게 동참해 나갈 것인지를 생각하게 해 주었습니다. 또한 믿는 자로서 이 세상이 제대로 발전하는지를 어떻게 감시하고 견제해 나갈 것인지를 생각해야 한다는 필요성을 새삼 느끼는 계기가 되었습니다. 그래서 앞으로 한인여선교회가 함께 이야기하고 그 방법을 모색하고, 구체적으로 어떻게 실천해 나갈지에 대해 공부하는 기회를 많이 가져야겠다고 생각했습니다. 또한 우리 아이들이 살아갈 미래에 관해서 관심을 가질 수 있어서 너무나 감사했습니다. 사실 발전하는 기술이나 경제 관념에 대해서, 신앙적이지 않을 수 있다는 선입견을 가지고 무시하며 살 수는 없습니다. 아이들에게 영적인
것이나 신앙적인 것만을 강조하며 가르쳐서도 안 됩니다. 저는 이것이 한인 2세에게 신앙을 제대로 전수하지 못하게 되는 큰 이유 중에 하나라고 봅니다.
기독교인들은 하나님의 나라와 그 의를 구하는 동시에, 우리가 살아가고 있는 세상을 어떻게 볼 것이며 어떻게 살 것인가를 고민해야 한다고 생각합니다.
“한 손에는 성경을, 다른 한 손에는 신문을”을 외쳤던 신학자 칼빈의 말씀대로. 저는 요즘 팬더믹으로 인해 아이들과 집에서 머물고 있습니다. 기숙사와 학교 근처 집에 나가 살던 성인 아들 두 명과 살아가는 것은 또 하나의 조용한 전쟁이기도 합니다. 그리고 하나님께서 주신 금쪽같은 기회이기도 합니다. 사실 저도 발전하는 세상을 제대로 따라잡고 있진 못하지만, 또한 신앙적인 사람이라고 말하기에 떳떳하진 않지만, 각자의 삶에서 살아가던 우리가, 다시 가족으로서 마주 앉아 서로에게 기쁨과 소망과 사랑을 나눌 수 있는 감사의 시간을 갖고 있습니다. 이번 임원 수련회를 계기로, 한인여선교회 전국연합회의 선교사역의 방향과 우리 자신의 생각과 미래에 대해 서로에게 얘기하고 나누는 시간을 가질 수 있었습니다.
미국 여선교회 본부의 이성옥 부국장님께서 말씀하신 대로, 포스트 코로나 시대인 지금 소유하려는 생각을 내려놓고 정말 중요한 것이 무엇인지를 찾으며, 교회가 교인 수와 헌금의 숫자에서 벗어나 인류에게 있어 근본 문제인 구원과 치유와 영성에 대해 집중하는 시기라는 말씀에 큰 은혜를 받았습니다.
마치는 예배에서 함께 읽은 교독문에서 많은 감동을 받았고, 함께 부른 “주가 일하시네” 찬양 속에서 팬더믹으로 주저앉은 지금 이 세상에서도 여전히 살아 역사하시는 하나님을 느낄 수 있었습니다. 하나님께서 불어넣어 주신 숨이 저의 몸속에 가득 참을 느낄 수 있었습니다.
앞으로 계속 이어질 한인여선교회 학당이나 여선교회 행사에 참여하고, 거기서 받은 은혜를
삶에서도 계속 실행하도록 노력할 것입니다. 임원수련회를 위해 수고하고 애써 주신 김혜선 목사님과 이성은 회장님, 이성옥 부국장님, 김명래 총무님, 코디네이터이신 권오연 전도사님, 그리고 순서를 맡아 주신 모든 임원님께 감사드립니다. 그리고 하나님의 나라를 위해 소명을 받고 선교사역에 참여하시는 모든 한인여선교회 회원들께 감사드립니다. 마지막으로 배움의 기회를 허락하시고, 지금도 우리 곁에서 살아 역사하시는 하나님께 감사와 영광을 돌립니다.

I attended the NNKUMW Executive Team Training.
In celebration of the New Year, I attended the NNKUMW Executive Team Training held on zoom on January 29-30 as the vice president of Cal-Pacific Conference KUMw Network. It was held under the topic question, “Who is the target of our NNKUMw’s missions in the wake of the post-COVID era, and what kinds of ministries should we do and how should we go about them?” The retreat textbook was "World Future Report 2021: Post-COVID Special Edition'' written by Youngsook Park and Jerome Gren.  Starting with an opening, the retreat was comprised of Rev. HyeSun Kim’s Bible study, "The Leadership of the Post-COVID Era, Deputy Director of United Methodist Women Sung-Ok Lee‘s “UMW Mission,” Executive Director MyungRae Lee’s workshop and the subsequent group discussions and presentations… it was a well-packed, fruitful retreat. 
 
At first, I didn’t put much thought into it upon receiving the textbook through mail. But, as always, NNKUMw never disappoints. Participating in Rev. Kim’s wise and blessed Bible study along with the insightful textbook, I could feel a sense of pride and honor for the mission as a member of NNKUMw preparing for the future.

This executive team retreat enabled me to think about what perspective I should take in regards to the developing world, humanity and society as a NNKUMw member, Christ’s disciple, and as a Christian. It also let me realize the importance of keeping an eye on how the world actually improves and develops as a believer. So I thought to myself to participate in more opportunities to study, talk, find ways, and act together as NNKUMw. Also, I was very thankful that I could take part in our children’s future. In fact, you can't live with the prejudice that one may not be in the faith in regards to the developing technology or economic ideas. We also shouldn’t be emphasizing only spiritual or religious matters to them. I think this is one of the main reasons why we experience difficulty in passing down our faith to our next immigrant generation. I believe Christians seek for the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and at the same time, think about how to view it and live in it wisely. Like the words of the Theologist Calvin,  “the Bible in one hand, a newspaper in the other.”

These days, I am staying at home a lot with my children due to the pandemic. Life with two adult sons who had been living out in the dorm and nearby the school is like dealing with another quiet war. And it is also a golden opportunity from God.

Though I’m not really catching up with the developing world, and though I can’t proudly say that I'm a religious person, having been living our own lives, it has been a thankful time of coming back as one family and sharing our joy, hope, and love with one another sitting face-to-face.

Through this executive team training, we were able to discuss and share to one another about the direction of NNKUMw’s missions, as well as share our thoughts and future plans.

I was hugely blessed listening to Sung-Ok Lee (United Methodist Women, National Office)’s words, that this time is about putting down the idea of ownership in this post-covid era, and instead finding out what is really important, and focusing on the fundamental issues for humanity—salvation, healing, and spirituality.

At the closing service, I was deeply moved by the responsive reading that we read together as well as by the praise song "The Lord is Working,” feeling our living and working God in the midst of all this fallen world due to the pandemic. I was able to feel God’s living breath filling up my entire body.

I will continue to participate in all the upcoming events of NNKUMw, and will try to apply all the blessings that I’ve received from those events into my daily life. I deeply thank Rev. Hea sun Kim, Grease Pyen, President of NNKUMw, Sung-ok Lee,United Methodist Women National Office,  Executive Director Myung-rae Kim Lee, Coordinator Oh-yeun Lee, as well as all the executives who were in charge of each sequence. And thank you to all the members of NNKUMw who are called for God’s Kingdom and are participating in missions. And lastly, I give all glory and thanks to our living God, for giving me this opportunity to learn.

뉴욕 연회 한인여선교회 연합회 새해맞이예배를 참석하고
2021년 2월 6일 뉴욕 연회 한인여선교회 연합회 새해맞이 예배가 있었습니다. 저는 2021년 뉴욕 연회 한인여선교회 연합회 사회부장으로서 처음 모임에 참석하게 되었습니다.

모임은 비대면으로 진행되었지만, 뉴욕연합회의 대 선배님들과 화상으로의 만남은 참으로 인상 깊었습니다. 연합감리교회 여선교회 역사 가운데 여선교회 회원들의 헌신과 노력이 지금까지 이어져 오는 것을 보며 우리 한인 연합감리교 여선교회 모임이 정말 중요한 역할을 감당하고 있음을 알 수 있었습니다.

이날은 예배 참석하는 것에 그치지 않고, 평화와 하나 됨을 위해 공부하고 노력하는 시간을 가졌습니다. 예배후에 “인종차별(Black Lives Matter)”이라는 주제로 김성실 권사님과 함께 하는 세미나가 열렸는데, 막연히 인종차별을 반대하는 것이 아닌, 우리가 어떻게 하면 연합하며 서로를 사랑할 수 있는지 구체적으로 나누고 토론하는 시간을 가졌습니다. 우리의 삶 속에 항상 자리 잡고 있는 편견과 불신, 고정관념에 대해 조금이나마 생각하고 나누는 시간이었습니다.
포스트 팬더믹을 기다리며, 한인여선교회가 앞으로 해나갈 일들을 기대합니다. 이제는 연합과 화합, 그리고 사회 정의 실현에 앞장서는 한인여선교회가 될 수 있기를 소망합니다. 이 시대에 꼭 필요한 주님의 일꾼들이 되기를 기도합니다.

Attending the New York Conference Korean UMW Network New Year’s Service


The New York Conference Korean UMW Network New Year’s Service was held on February 6, 2021. It was my first time attending the meeting, as this year’s Social Action Coordinator for the NY Conference KUMW Network. Although the meeting was held remotely, I was impressed to meet with the great seniors of Korean UMW. Seeing how the UMW members’ sacrifice and dedication have been passed down until today throughout the history of UMC UMW, I could tell that our Korean UMW is playing an essential role in this place. 

On that day, we went beyond just attending a service, but spent time studying and striving for peace and unity.  After the service, we had a seminar led by Susan Kim regarding the topic of "Black Lives Matter," during which we shared and discussed in detail how we could love one another in unity, instead of vaguely opposing racism. It was a time to reflect and share our thoughts on prejudice, distrust, and stereotypes that are constantly present amidst our lives. 
As we wait for the post-pandemic age, I look forward to the things our NY Conference KUMW Network will be doing in the near future. I hope that Korean UMW will take the lead in fulfilling unity, harmony, and social justice. I pray for all of us to be the essential workers of the Lord in this age.

뉴잉글랜드 연회 한인여선교회연합회 수련회와 총회

지난 2월 22일 토요일 오전 세시간 동안 뉴잉글랜드 연회 한인여선교회연합회에서 실시한 수련회와 총회를 줌을 통해서 참가했다.
오랜 신앙생활 속에서 나름으로 열심히 소속 교회를 섬기면서도, 뉴잉글랜드 연회 한인여선교회연합회는 개체교회의 여선교회 회장들만이 관여하는 거로 여기고 무관심 속에서 지금까지 지내왔다. 팬데믹으로 많은 것이 통제되고 막혀있는 시간이 길어지면서, 제한된 교회 생활이 어느덧 덤덤해져 가고 있는 것을 깨닫고, 지금의 상황 속에서 섬김을 어떻게 해야 하나님을 기쁘시게 할 수 있는지 생각하고 있었다.

그때 마침 우리 교회 권사님의 권유로 뉴잉글랜드 연회 한인여선교회연합회에서 하는 작은 성경 공부 모임에 참여하게 되었다. 그 후 연합회의 재봉사역에서 회장님과 임원분들도 만나게 되었고, 총회에까지 참석하게 되면서 우물 안 개구리가 세상을 본 듯했다.
전국연합회 김명래 총무님의 코로나 시대와 한인여선교회에 대한 말씀, 김남중 교수님의 “숨”과 “쉼”의 성경공부, 서로를 통해서 위로와 힘을 얻은 소그룹 모임 나눔.  2021년 총회... 이 모든 순서를 통해서 미처 생각하지도 못했고 알지도 못했던 많은 것들을 알게 되었고 어렴풋이 막연하게 알던 것들도 많은 자료와 설명 속에서 확실하게 이해와 정리가 되는 귀한 시간이었다.

총회를 마치고 순간 드는 생각은 하나님께서 나에게 새길을 열어주시고 지경을 넓혀 주시는구나! 팬데믹 속에서 가졌던 신앙생활에 대한 고민의 답을 찾은 듯했다. 기쁘고, 감사했다! 조금 아쉬웠던 점이 있다면, 뉴잉글랜드 연회 안에 10개의 감리교회와 여선교회원들이 더 많이 수련회와 총회에 참석하여 새로운 도전과 은혜를 받으실 수 있었으면 하는 것이었다.

앞으로 적극적인 홍보와 권유를 통해 더욱더 많은 여성들이 참여해서, 우리들을 통해서 하나님의 이름이 널리 알려지고, 하나님께서 영광 받으시는 2021년 되길 바라며 기도한다.

On Saturday Feb. 22, I participated in the retreat and conference held by the New England Conference KUMw Network. Though I have been serving at my local church in my long religious life, I’ve been living in indifference, thinking that I didn’t have much to do with the conference, only the relevant KUMW leaders of the churches.

With quarantine life extending and with lots of things being put under control from the prolonged pandemic, I found myself being content about the limited church life. I was brainstorming on how I should serve during this time to please God. It was then when my church member recommended me to participate in a small Bible study group by the New England Conference KUMw Network. Since then, as I met with the president of New England Conference KUMw Network  and the executives at NNKUMw’s Sewing Ministry, and as I got to attend the conference, I felt like a frog finally out of the well to the outside world.
Hearing Executive Director MyungRae Lee’s discussion on KUMW & the Post COVID age, attending Prof. Nam J Kim’s Bible Study on “Breathe” and “Rest,” gaining strength and reassurance from one another in small group discussion, the 2021 Conference… through all these events, I have thought of and learned a lot of things that I haven’t thought about and haven’t known before. It was also a precious time to understand and organize things that I had only vaguely known before, through various materials and explanations.
What came to mind after the conference was: ‘God is opening up a new way for me to expand my territory.’ I felt like I had found the answer to my worries regarding my faith that I’ve been dealing with amidst the pandemic. I was happy and thankful!

One drawback about the conference would be that I wish the 10 New England Conference KUMw Network churches and KUMW members would attend the retreats and conference a lot more so that they would gain new motivations and blessings. With more active publicity and encouragement, I hope and pray that more and more women would participate, and through us, God's name would be widely spread and that 2021 would be a year of glorifying Him.

여선교회 헌신예배를 마치면서
2021년도 여선교회 모임을 은혜롭게 마치게 해 주신 하나님께 감사드립니다. 지금의 코로나바이러스로 인한 팬더믹 현실에서, 우리의 생활 특히 우리의 믿음 생활을 되돌아보고 우리의 자세를 새롭게 정립할 수 있는 계기가 되도록 인도해 주신 김남중 목사님의 말씀에 감사드립니다.

하나님께서 이 세상을 창조하시고, ‘보시기에 좋았다’고 하신 말씀대로, 하나님께서 그렸던 이 세상은 자연 (인간을 제외한 동물, 식물, 무생물들과 여러 자연현상 등) 과 인간이 서로 보완적이며 공생하는, 그야말로 눈에 보이는 천국이었음에 틀림없을 것입니다. 그러나 우리 인간의 탐욕과, 하나님의 교훈을 멀리하고 우리의 생각에만 몰각된 교만으로, 이 세상의 질서는 파괴되고, 이제는 오히려 자연의 공격을 받는 것은 아닌지 생각해봅니다. 피폐해질 대로 피폐해진 우리 인간이, 이제는 우리의 원래의 모습대로, 하나님의 창조의 섭리로 돌아가야 할 줄 믿습니다.

하나님께서 우리 사람을 지으시고 생기를 그 코에 불어넣으시니 생령 (a living soul 즉 a living person)이 되게 하시고(창2:7), 안식일을 정하여 숨과 쉼의 조화를 이루게 하셨습니다. 이제 우리는 잠시 가던 길을 멈추고 숨(호흡)을 조절하며, 쉼(안식)을 취하여야 할 때 인 것 같습니다. 지금이 바로 그때가 아니겠습니까? 우리 인간이 스스로 하지 못하니 하나님께서 간섭하시어 다시 기회를 주신 줄 믿고 싶습니다. 지금의 이 어려움도 하나님께서 주시는 말씀과 그 은혜로 이겨내고 극복할 줄 믿습니다. 하나님께서는 우리에게 감당할 시험만 허락하시고, 또한 피할 길도 주신다고 하셨습니다.
“고난 당하기 전에는 내가 그릇 행하였더니 이제는 주의 말씀을 지키나이다” (시 119:67)
“고난 당한 것이 내게 유익이라 이로 인하여 내가 주의 율례를 배우게 되었나이다” (시 119:71)
지금이 우리가 하나님께로 돌아가야 할 시간이 아니겠습니까? 우리가 하나님께로 돌아가고 우리의 원래의 모습으로 돌아가는 그 첫발은……서로 나누며, 받는 것보다 주는 것을 더 기뻐하고, 이름 없는 작은 들꽃의 아름다움에도 감탄하고 경탄할 줄 아는, 아주 작은 그 발걸음이 아닐까요.
우리 여선교회가 앞장 서 그 작은 발걸음을 내딛는 다면 ‘하나님이 보시기에 좋은 세상’ 바로 그런 세상이 되지 않을까요…..

 We praise the Lord for a blessed 2021 KUMW dedication service.                                                                                                                    
We were grateful for the inspiring and thought-provoking reflections from Professor Nam Joong Kim. He invited us to rethink our posture and attitudes toward our daily walk in the midst of the Coronavirus Pandemic.
He reminded us that our God created the world and called it good. That in the beginning, our world was a paradise: human and nature co-existed in perfect harmony. But it was humanity’s greed and pride that had caused us to turn away from God’s teaching. And the created order was destroyed to the point that we are now being attacked by nature. Devastation.
God invites us to return to our original form, to the providence of God’s creation. Pastor Nam J Kim pointed out that God has breathed into us (Genesis 2:7) and has set the rhythms of work and Sabbath to create harmony between breath and rest. And in this season, we are invited into a rhythm of breathing and resting. To breathe (live and work), then to take a rest (Sabbath). And we can’t do it alone; God is constantly intervening in our lives and inviting us.          
Even in this pandemic, by the grace of God, we can overcome our trials and difficulties. We find our hope in the Scriptures:

. “And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.”(Cor 10:13)

. “Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I obey your word.” (Psalm 119:67)

. “It was good for me to be afflicted so that I might learn your decrees.” (Psalm 119:67)

Might this be the time for us to return to God and His original purpose of creation?
KUMW’s commitment to pursuing climate justice is rooted in the hope that God has created the world to be good and we partner with God in the world.
The first step that we can take is to share with one another, to be more delighted in giving than receiving.  Another step might be to take a moment to pause everything and learn to admire the beauty of a little unnamed wild flower.
By taking these small steps and by continuing to accept God’s invitation, the United Methodist Women can take the lead—and together we might join with God in restoring the world that God has created and declaring, “it is good.”

This year marks 30 years of history since KUMW was organized and started participating in mission work. Since then, we have been holding leadership training for our KUMW members as well as our daughters, second-generation Korean women. Moreover, we have been learning, sharing and growing together through holding leadership training for UMW women in Asia.
Our seniors of faith have trained lay female leaders under the vision of "Women help fellow women to make a better future,” continuing to write the history of great women mission with offerings, prayers and dedication.
